Opening Reception: Thursday, February 24, 6PM - 8PM

Artist Ji Sun Lee creates a space of traditional order and harmony with nature ruptured by modernity but here paradoxically restored by it.

Drawing on her background in meditation and training as a computer engineer and designer, new media artist Ji Sun Lee uses the latest technology to generate a space of pristine peace and tranquility. Urban Meditation, the artist's first solo exhibition in New York, comprises six installations: Tea Ceremony, Four Gracious Plants, Fanning, Head of Speech, Walking and The Dot. Each work referencing a traditional order and harmony with nature ruptured by modernity but here paradoxically restored by it.

For Lee "In today's world change is very fast, so people look for spiritual healing and release from stress. That's why people in the West are very interested in meditation practice and yoga. Urban Meditation is inspired by my meditative experience in Korea and my goal is to bring that traditional activity into a digital environment using an artistic approach."
