Shared is a series of video installations that involve the mediated bodies of the artist's nicoykatiushka.

This duo collaborative has been working together ever since their marriage day on June 20, 2003. They objectify their bodies and their intimacy, role playing with notions of private versius public. Glimpses of their intimate life are transformed into living installations, as they seek to overturn the concepts of culturally sanctioned images of the female and male body, gender identity and the reinforcement of commodified sexual stereotypes.

Shared divides the gallery in two spaces: Share and F*ck is in the Air. Share is comprised of a three part series that involve a total of 7 synhcronized video channels. Tucked away in an intimate space of the gallery the viewer is obligated to enter the tiny space and peek into the lives of the artists.

In F*ck is in the Air, a multi screened video installation, nicoykatiushka take simple repetitive actions and transform them into what seems to be a glimpse of the couple’s sexual acts. They take a cliche term, “Love is in the Air” and turn it into an elegant anti-gravitational sexual act. nicoykatiushka present radical mutations of the fields of relation between artist and spectator by re-positioning the systems of representation that shape sex, gender and ethnicity.

nicoykatiushka have performed their own work and the works of others in several venues in New York City, Boston, Paris, Chile, and Mexico. These institutions include Exit Art Gallery, St. Mark's Church, Judson Church, DTW, Dia Beacon, Dia Chelsea, Visual Arts Gallery and Aqui Bushwick. They have worked for artists such as Papo Colo, Guillermo Gomez Peña, Robert Whitman and Juliette Mapp. For more information check their website at www.nicoykatiushka.org.

La simbiosis de una pareja en el Arte

nicoykatiushka son probablemente la pareja de artistas mas romántica de los tiempos presentes. Desde hace 3 años (fecha de su matrimonio) que trabajan juntos, renunciando a sus egos individuales en pro de un prolífico y abundante trabajo en común bajo el nombre simbiótico de nicoykatiushka. La materia prima de su trabajo son sus propios cuerpos, los cuáles exponen, articulan y modifican, para crear verdaderas "instalaciónes vivientes", generalmente mediadas (video, fotografía, performance), las cuáles han presentado en Exit Art, Harvard University Boston, Dia Beacon, Santiago de Chile y otros.

nicoykatiushka se apoderan de uno de los simbolos más universales del arte - la pareja: hombre-mujer, en cuanto a forma y significado, cultivando una estética clásica limpia y transparente, para translucir sus verdaderas preocupaciónes conceptuales con amplio sentido del humor y crítica: La manipulación de los estereotipos en los medios masivos de comunicación (la publicidad, como en el reciente trabajo titulado "Commercial Movement") o el choque ideológico y moral de oriente - occidente (como en "Coitus Reservatus", una performance en la que recrean una docena de posturas del Kamasutra en trajes de "dama" y "caballero" de la decada de los 50).

En esta ocasión NyK presentan dos nuevas obras: "Share" y "F*ck is in the Air". Dos obras compuestas de una serie de imágenes en movimiento sincronizadas (13 pantallas en total).
